AESTOLOGYY: What is the one big ‘skin sin’ you have seen people engaging in during the COVID19 pandemic?
BELINDA: At the beginning of the pandemic – as everyone went to zoom meetings – makeup dropped off the priority list, and skincare became the star. People were at home and had time for their routines, plus personal skin examination.
After extended lockdowns, a real apathy started creeping in, and people’s routines started going out the window – with that sourdough starter.
Overall, I have seen an overall uptick in skincare interest, especially professional routines for products like cosmeceutical serums.
AESTOLOGYY: What is ‘aesthetic beautification’ and what should people be wary of?
BELINDA: For me, the term ‘aesthetic beautification’ largely talks about non-surgical improvements with a doctor/professional – botox, fillers, laser etc.
Generally, the more invasive stuff. This has become extremely popular, and today most women partake in some kind of botox/filler.
It becomes ‘transforming’ when it goes too far. It could be too much filler in the lips, or cheeks which gives a more ‘puffy face’ look than enhancing something.
Today, I see this a lot amid the 20-something demographic.
I would prefer [aesthetic beautification] simply means ‘taking care of your skin’ through monthly facials and a great daily skincare routine.
This is my preferred way of working because a properly prescribed skincare routine is very underrated. It is often overlooked for more aggressive treatments.
AESTOLOGYY: What is some of your favourite in-salon ‘beauty tech’ treatments, and why? How do they work?
BELINDA: Definitely microcurrent, and now LED as well!
I’ve been using microcurrent for years because it re-trains the muscle in your face to be more lifted and firm. It’s a brilliant non-invasive way to have beautifully toned youthful skin.
It really works, especially across a course of ten weekly treatments – my clients love it!
It’s my most popular treatment for aging concerns.
I’ve bought into LED, and you can’t beat the healing power of light for all skin types – especially if skin is damaged or stressed.
AESTOLOGYY: What’s your current full AM and PM skin care regime?
BELINDA: I’m currently using a mix of OrganicSpa, Osmosis, MSKIN, Eminence and Dermalist.
- OrganicSpa Cream Cleanser
- Dermalist Serum
- Eminence Eye cream
- MSKIN Pro Barrier Pro zinc day cream
- OrganicSpa BB cream
- Mineral Makeup
- Roccoco Oil Cleanser x2
- Osmosis Catalyst or Correct
- Eminence Eye cream
- MSKIN Power Pro Sleep Oil
- Alexami Hydrating Primer (just a pea size to help seal the sleep oil)
AESTOLOGYY: What has been the hardest thing you’ve faced in your career to date, and what advice do you have for others?
BELINDA: I love this industry and I’ve always embraced everything with two hands, doing the best job I can.
I’m not a social media whiz, I do ok, but definitely [am] not like the younger generation that grew up with it, and can build an audience in the tens of thousands in a few months!
